Uses of Global Positioning System Free-Samples for Students

Question: 1.Is GPS spying on us and making us stupid? Answer: Introduction GPS or Global Positioning System is a very well-known electronic system that is used for the purpose of satellite-guided navigational system. The system basically works by allowing the user to make the proper calculation of their latitude, altitude, and longitude of the current location. The GPS works irrespective of any location situated across the globe. In that context, this essay is proposed to focus on various actions of GPS system[1]. No doubt the GPS technology is relatively new technology which has many applications but in relation to that, the system also possesses many serious implications continuing with various negative impacts. For that reason, one of the major negative impacts of GPS is that the employees can come across the tracking process against their will by the employers. This tracking process becomes a question in evaluation the integrity of the employees that certainly will affect the employee-employer relations. Use of The GPS System The use of the GPS system in tracking the employees in the workplace against the will of the employees comes under the process of employee monitoring. The process of employee monitoring in the workplace is action carried out by the employer to survey the employee activity. It is then further carried out by monitoring the employee tracking performance by avoiding the legal liabilities. Along with that, the organizations provide protection to various trade secrets as well as address various other security issues. Thus the use of Global Positioning System brings the advantage for the organization to solve their issues relating to the security concerns and all other essential concerns but in return, it affects the employee satisfaction[2]. The reason behind it is the use of GPS system creates a direct impact on the privacy of the employees that further affects their workplace ethics by creating conflicts. This action later affected the integrity within the workplace. Effect of GPS on the Privacy of the Employees The implementation GPS provides the employer the details regarding the performance of the employees. Basically, the GPS for the employees is used to track the employees those are using employer-owned vehicles. In addition to that, the employers also make the audio and video monitoring by which they can track the performance of the employees. Video monitoring is done through the implementation of surveillance cameras to monitor the proper maintenance of security along with the measurement of the employee productivity. This will eventually help in dealing with the internal theft. Moreover, the presence of the hidden cameras poses threat to the privacy of the employees[3]. However, the tracking of the cell phone makes the revelation of all the private associations as well as the relationship. This revelation will create conflict in between the people associated with the concerned person who has been tracked. Thus the use of GPS in monitoring the workplace for the safety purpose is quite a god enough as it is a powerful and inexpensive tool to use. But on the flip side of it is used within the cell phones and the surveillance cameras then it will directly affect the employee ethics within the workplace. The reason behind it is the monitoring process will collect the all the activities whether it is work or non-work along with various personal information. In that case, the resources that are found can be misused by the officials that could hurt the sentiments and emotion of the individuals. Thus monitoring the employees activities by using GPS puts the employees as well as the employers at odds because it reveals personal facts and interests. In that case, employees wish to hide their personal belongings and the employer wishes to keep the resources of its company safe. Thus, in that case, the employee must understand what is expected of them as well as the employer should mark the rule that should be followed within the organization. By going through this the use of GPS will not hamper the workplace ethics[4]. Effect of the GPS on Integrity within the Workplace Integrity is another vital factor that comes under one of the fundamental values that the employer seek while hiring the employees. Moreover, it can be said that the integrity is one kind of hallmark by which the person can be judged regarding the presence of moral and ethical principles. The presence of integrity makes any individual live in harmony with the co-workers, customers as well as stakeholders[5]. In that case, honesty and trust are the central part of the integrity. But in any instance, the use of GPS makes the revelations of the non-work activities of an employee it will make him feel insecure and automatically his or her behaviour towards the other co-worker will change. And most importantly this activity will change the relationship of the individual with its senior officials with the rise in conflict along with the rise in the quality of retaliation against the employees. This will directly impact the integrity within the workplace that also comes under the codes and conducts of the workplace ethics[6]. Examples of the Conflicts in between Employee and Employer The loose in privacy, as well as integrity, result in the rise in the conflict in between the employee and employer just because of the personalities, as well as perspectives, started varying from each other. This eventually resulted in huge differences in the opinions of both the employee and employer[7]. In addition, the process resulted in employee absenteeism and tardiness. When this kind of approach is seen it will result in the change of leadership which created discrimination within the workplace. Later on, the rise in the personal conflicts also results in differences in approach to the projects. Thus all these are the resultants of the violation of the workplace ethics which is initiated by the use of GPS in the workplace[8]. Conclusion The paper is supposed to highlight some negative impacts of the use of GPS. Thus the question that has been raised regarding GPS whether it is spying us or making us stupid. By going through the discussion from every point it can be said that the use of GPS in some cases providing greater value and advantage but at the personal level, the spying by GPS activity is resulting in the irritation and conflicts within the workplace. In addition, the use of GPS for the employees violates the workplace ethics by which the employees become stupid in front of all. Thus it can be stated that in some instances the use of GPS can be banned. Bibliography Bray, Hiawatha. You Are Here: From the Compass to GPS, the History and Future of How We Find Ourselves.
